PSO / ISTA Ratify 1-Year Agreement

After several months of tense negotiations, the Professional Staff Organization (PSO) and Indiana State Teacher’s Association (ISTA) have come to terms on a new contract for the 2024-25 fiscal year.

The deal delivered on several key priorities for PSO:

1. Fair Pay Increases: Wages that keep up with inflation and make progress toward catching up with neighboring affiliates.
2. No Premium Increases: Health insurance premiums stay the same, ensuring stability in benefits costs.
3. Protected Due Process: Continued strong due process rights for staff, maintaining fair treatment and protections.
4. Flexible Residency Requirements: New clarity around residency rules, offering more flexibility for staff and their families.
5. Expanded Term Employee Rights: Strengthened rights and protections for term employees.

Negotiations stalled over the summer, and a federal mediator was employed to facilitate the bargaining process. At the same time, the members of PSO organized a series of actions aimed to raise awareness of the difficulties at the table and an outpouring of support from ISTA’s own members demonstrated their desire for a fair settlement.

As this is one year settlement, PSO and ISTA will return to the table next year.
